Juniperous Recurva Coxii
Juniperous Recurva Coxii and Juniperous Recurva Castle Wellan

The Juniper in Shanklin Old Village is 5 years old. Those planted around Upper Chine are 30 years plus probably nearer 40 years old. In total we have 16 in the garden.

We treat these trees in cycles – hard one year then gentle for a few years. Once the canopy has built up some bulk Fred will hard prune them, then leave them to build up strength again. These trees seem to thrive with this approach.

Fred’s tip – able to cope with less than 1” of water with a tiny root ball but have an extensive single taproot
