FAQ's

How do I find you?
The Model Village is situated on the High Street in Godshill. This is the A3020 Newport to Shanklin road. We are the big white house on the corner of the High Street.

Where can I park?
Godshill has a free council run car park opposite the Griffin Pub.  If you do park in the Old Smithy Car Park please ensure you check the locking up time on the gate and do make sure you pop in to their lovely shops too!  For Sat Nav the postcode is PO38 3HZ

Coach parking

If your party is on a COACH please call or email us (give at least 24 hours notice).  Our friends at the Old Smithy are limiting coach parking due to social distancing restrictions so ALL COACHES MUST BE BOOKED IN AHEAD OF ARRIVAL.  If you do not book ahead you will be turned away.

How much is it to get in?
See Prices.

What time do you open/close?
We open at 10am every day and close at 4pm.

Can I bring my dog?
We love to see well behaved dogs and their owners.  We just ask that you keep your dog on a short lead and clear up if necessary.  Bins are provided around the garden.  Doggie water can be found by the Nammet Hut and near the exit from the garden.  As you know not everyone likes dogs so we ask you to be respectful of other visitors.

Can we have a picnic in the garden?
You are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy on the lawn by the photo area.  Please supervise children and ensure they stay with you. Alternatively there is a large grassy park (Central Mead) just on the right, past the Teddy Bear shop, that has lots of room for picnics and and running about. You can then walk back to the main car park via a footpath.

Is it wheelchair friendly?
Absolutely.  The surfaces are hard surfaces or compacted material with no steep gradients… but please look out for the hidden speed cameras on the way round!

Do you have a baby change facility?
Yes this is provided in the disabled loo, which is large enough for a wheelchair or pushchair.

I am an RHS Member – when do I get free admission?

The Model Village is free to RHS Main Members on Mondays & Fridays ONLY. An up to date RHS Membership card must be presented at the admission kiosk to enjoy free admission for main cardholder only. (see RHS Handbook for full details and how to check if you get free admission)

Who owns it?
The Model Village is privately owned by Stuart & Penny Dyer and has been in our family for 54 years.

How long will it take to walk round?
It usually takes about 45 minutes. This will of course depend on how fast you walk & how much detail you take in.   A family with our quiz sheet and trying to count all the tiny squirrels can take an hour and a half!   If you stay for a cup of tea or an ice cream and then wander around again you could easily spend a couple of hours here.

Do you have toilets?
Yes, with disabled and baby change facilities.

Do you offer Essential Companions tickets?

PLEASE NOTE WITH EFFECT FROM APRIL 2024 WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT NIMBUS ACCESS CARDS AS PROOF OF ESSENTIAL COMPANION

https://www.accesscard.online/apply-or-renew/

  • An Essential Companion ticket is available for people where support is needed that is significant and substantial and in excess of what could be reasonably expected of family/friends already accompanying the guest.  The support must be due to disability-related needs.

One piece of documentation below to be shown on arrival:

  • Local authority Essential Companion ID or Bus Pass

  • Nimbus Access card with the +1 symbol.  Photo on card must be of guest who requires carer.

  • Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance award letter (dated within last 2 years)

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Letter (dated within the last 2 years)

  • Letter from GP or Consultant (dated within the last 2 years) confirming the need for a full-time Carer (this does not need to be a letter of diagnosis)

Unfortunately, we will not be able to issue Essential Companion tickets without seeing one of the above documentation.  For more information regarding accessibility please see here

Can children go into the Model Village alone?
A responsible adult must always accompany children (3 to 16 years). This is one rule that we never make exceptions to – we are sure you will understand why.

Can I take photographs?
As many as you like from the paths.  If you get a good one we’d love to see a copy.  Email it to hello@modelvillagegodshill.co.uk or send it to our Facebook page or our Instagram Page
