Sycamore (Acer Psudoplata)

We defoliate the tree in the following manner:

• prune to one pair of leaves 5/6 weeks after breaking bud

• when it breaks bud for the 2nd time we remove all the original leaves and half of the new

• when it breaks bud for 3rd time we remove ¼ to ½ leaves.   This means the remaining leaf cover is about a fifth of the sycamore leaf size if left un-pruned, with a much shorter petiole.

 

Fred’s tip – quite a challenge, very time consuming but give it a go!
